![]() ![]() This is usually the case of simplifying for animation, which usually isn’t too bad. Their skin tones are a little desaturated, so even dark skin tones come off as fairly light.Īlthough they’re mostly consistent with the actual details, minor changes can usually be seen from the original to the animation model. They can’t seem to decide how dark they want Rokurou to be…Īnd though I writer “darker” or “more tan”, in ufotable’s art especially, it’s not all that dark. Her anime model however… is as pale as Velvet’s should have been.Įleanor’s 3D and anime model are both a bit darker, Laphicet gradually gets paler, and eizen is more or less the same. Her model is a bit more orange/yellow, but keeps the color. Magilou’s original design has a pinkish tone to it, and she’s not exactly pale. It doesn’t help the black is lightened as well. The animation model is a little lighter, but it has more color to it than her original, still erasing the huge contrast. Her model ignores this and gives her an average tan, eliminating the contrast. Velvet is stark white, creating a nice visual contrast between her black hair and clothes. The inconsistency between original to 3D to anime is actually quite jarring as well… Skin tone is one of the most noticeable right off the bat. I really do hope for one main designer per game again after this, because designs that balance each other and suit the world are an integral part of world building, which the series has lacked in recent titles. I get that they’re doing this as a special for the anniversry titles, but the more I look at the ragtag design cast the more I think “what the heck were the devs thinking.” I do applaud Xillia ½ for trying to match despite how out of place it looked, especially in X2 when Okumura joined in. Zestiria also had the same issue in erasing each designer’s characteristics, though. Although Zestiria also mixed 4 designers, the colors and designs balanced each other out fair enough (though there were still characters that didn’t look like they belonged…). Even with darker themes, an overuse of one color is never good design wise. There’s a heavy use of black this time around which doesn’t make for a well put together varied cast. They also all look like they’re from a different world (except maybe Eleanor and Laphicet due to color scheme). ![]() Character design to 3D model to animation comparison and maybe a slight rant.ĭue to trying to find a style balance between the 4 designers, I feel like they all lost a bit of individuality in the conversion. ![]()
